Not everyone wants to read Regency romances (or sci fi or westerns or . . . ). BUT if you venture into that sub-genre, let me recommend Mary Balogh.
Typically a hero and heroine have to take risks and overcome obstacles in order to be together. Once they’re together, the assumption is they will live happily ever after because, well, they’re the H and H. But Balogh’s stories often unite the couple early on and then their struggle is to find love and happiness in that union. Not everyone’s grandmother tells them this truth: if you want happiness, you have to commit to and work at it, every day. These H and H’s discover this and so work for and earn happiness.
Plus she has great characters, male and female. Not all of them are good-looking or easy to love, but then, that’s pretty real. These are super good romances. Read on!
